The Myths And Truths About Diet
Things to consider when preparing a diet for developing abs
How diets work
There are many myths about diet and the effects they have on the body. All diets work in a similar way – they reduce your calorie intake, either by reducing your overall food intake, or by reducing your intake of certain types of food (this is what fad diets tend to do). Some diets also include food which help you burn calories, or which appear to burn most of the calories they contain.
If we intend to get the abs we want then, in addition to the exercises described on the pages of this site, we also need to consider our diet – most importantly we need to ensure our diet provides all the nutrients necessary to repair our muscles after our workout – it is this post-exercise repair process which enhances muscle mass.

The Worst Ab Exercise
Avoid This if You Actually Want Sexy Six Pack Abs

Nice Abs!
I’ve got loads of articles to add to this blog related to getting great abs through dieting and exercise. My first few posts have been based on submissions by fitness expert Mike Geary (who gave his kind permission to print them) . Just as I was going to delve into the rest of my archive I’ve come across another of his really interesting articles – And I couldn’t resist printing it because I suspect many of you will be able to identify with this becuse it’s a story I’ve come across many times myself…
How NOT to get a sixpack!
“The truth about ineffective abdominal exercises and “ab machines”
I was at a poker party up in North Jersey over the weekend at a friend’s house. My friend had moved into this beautiful new home about a year ago, but I had never made it up for a visit until this weekend.
As they were giving us a tour of the house, we took a peek into one of their spare rooms which wasn’t being used for anything. The only thing they had in this room was one of those infomercial “ab loungers” covered in dust… you know, the ab-chair looking thingy that they hawk on the infomercials as being the end-all solution to a flabby stomach… telling you that you can get a flat stomach and perfect abs just by sitting on this thing and rocking a little bit while you lazily watch tv.

How To Get Great Abs
I bet you think that the best exercises for developing great abs are crunches and situps, right?

Well, according to Mike Geary, you’re wrong! He recommends exercises which work on your whole body, which use extra calories (which you need to do to help burn off fat) AND at the same time work your abs. If you want to know how to get great abs, and you’ve been spending long hours doing situps and similar abdominal exercises to get rid of your belly fat, then you may want to have a re-think… Here’s an excerpt from a recent article by Mike, complete with pictures so you can follow along…
A unique ab workout that doesn’t contain your typical boring stomach exercises – no crunches or situps here, by Mike Geary – Certified Nutrition Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer.
Instead of the typical ab routines that we see so often with crunches, situps, leg lifts, etc… I like to give my readers better options for metabolism-boosting high intensity workouts that work their entire body while also working their abs… thus building rock hard abs & core, but also creating a much better fat-burning workout than a typical ab workout.
I’m going to show you an example today of one of my favorite “ab workouts” that doesn’t include any direct “ab exercises” at all. It’s in a tri-set format (similar to a super-set but alternating between 3 exercises). Here goes:
1a. Renegade Dumbbell Rows
1b. Front Squats with Barbell
1c. Mountain Climbers on Floor

Veggies That Burn Fat
Did you know that there are vegetables that can actually stimulate the burning of stomach fat?
Well, according to Mike Geary, there are chemicals in our environment and food supply, such as pesticides, herbicides, and petrochemicals that have an estrogenic effect on our bodies. This problem can increase belly fat on both men and women, so pay attention.
These chemicals are called xenoestrogens, and exposure to them from chemicals in our food and water supply and the environment is one factor that can stimulate your body to hold onto belly fat. Even if you eat organic food and live in what might be considered a low-pollution area, it is almost impossible to not get at least some degree of daily exposure to xenoestrogens. They are in many common household products!

If you’ve tried to build muscle you’ll know that even with a regular hard workout schedule and trying every supplement it’s not the easiest thing to accomplish. I struggled for years to gain any significant muscle mass, but over the years in my personal training business and with my own experimentation have found some important things that have helped make significant muscle gains possible even for those who find it difficult.

Tip No. One
Make sure that 95% of the exercises you perform in the gym are big multi-joint compound exercises. It doesn’t matter if your goal is fat loss or building muscle… this is important if you want to get lean, ripped, and powerful.
